"This new Education Policy is So Cool, I want to go back to School"

Indian Govt. has unveiled the New education policy that aims at restructuring the school education. Its a great initiative taken by government. Its almost after 34 years , when the whole Indian education system is going to be restructured.
I have brought here, a short and summarized overview of the whole Education Policy, 2020.The 10+2 structure of school curriculum is to be replaced by a 5+3+3+4 curriculum structure; However, the changes brought by the New education Policy shall be implemented from the 2021 academic session.

The New Education Policy introduces the uncovered 3 years of pre-schooling age group i.e. 3-6 years under the school curriculum. Now, the new system will add 3 years of Anganwadi/pre-schooling with the 12 years of earlier education system. We can say Now schooling starts at the age of 3

Education Policy

Let us now , understand what this 5+3+3+4 structure actually is ?

1. Foundation Stage:

The first 5 years of school education which includes 3 years of pre-primary education + 1 year of First class + 1 year of second class will be known as foundation stage. The curriculum of this stage shall be prepared by NCERT. The focus shall be on imparting knowledge to the students by way of sports and other activities (less burden of books). This would help in building a strong base for their career.

2. Preparatory Stage:

3 years of education during class 3rd to 5th shall be preparatory stage. In this stage students will be prepared for their future. They will be introduced with subjects like Science, Mathematics, Arts, Social Sciences & Humanities etc.

Classes 6th to 8th come under this stage. At this stage students shall be taught under pre-decided syllabus. Students will now be able to learn computer coding from 6th standard. They will be eligible to do internship in their interest area .

4. Secondary Schooling:

This stage starts from class 9th and is carried till 12th, i.e. 4 years of education. The pattern of teaching shall be same as Middle stage. Major Changes To take Place:

1. No Stream System: The most important change is there shall be no stream system like before. No bifurcation in Science, Commerce & Arts streams. Now, if students of humanities want to study physics , they will be able to do so without any restriction. It is possible that students shall be allowed to choose the subjects of their choice.

2. Mother tongue as medium of instruction: education of classes upto 5th shall be in their mother tongue. It sticks to the three language formula but no language shall be imposed on anyone. English will no more be mandatory language.

3. Semester Examination: there shall be semester examinations for 9th to 12th classes. There shall be 2 semester examination in a year. Students' ability of understanding shall be judged and not the ability of cramming. Report card shall be made based on 360 degree assessment i.e. it includes self assessment, peer assessment and assessment by teachers.
